I. May 12 Wenchuan earthquake

On May 12, 2018, a devastating earthquake rocked Wenchuan. Sichuan Road & Bridge set up a rescue and disaster relief team at the first time, and proceeded to the hardest hit areas such as Dujiangyan, Yingxiu, Mianzhu, Beichuan and Qingchuan despite overwhelming difficulties, and repaired life-saving roads of over 400 kilometers in the disaster areas such as Dujiangyan-Wenchuan Expressway at the fastest speed.

Xi Jinping spoke highly of Sichuan Road & Bridge as a team that can win tough battles, never shirk from sacrifice and difficulties in disaster relief. The team made outstanding contributions to the restoration of traffic in Sichuan disaster area. Former Premier Wen Jiabao spoke highly of Sichuan Road & Bridge for having achieved unprecedented results in three-month rescue efforts and demonstrated unprecedented great spirit of disaster relief.

Sichuan Road & Bridge is hailed as “an expert in winning tough battles and the pioneer of repairing roads”. It was awarded the honorary title of “National Earthquake Relief Hero” by the Party Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission; the “Advanced Primary Party Organization for Earthquake Relief” by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC; and rated the “Advanced Collective for Earthquake Relief” by the Ministry of Transport.
