A race against time to ensure the road service
The bridge engineering branch of Sichuan Road & Bridge participated in traffic rescue in the disaster area and completed the testing and design of damaged bridge over the Jinsha River in the first time
On November 13, the traffic roads along the Jinsha River in Ganzi Prefecture (Baiyu, Batang, Derong, Dege) in Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet sustained damage to varying degrees due to artificial flood discharge for the dammed lake of the Jinsha River. The Jinshajiang Bridge connecting the north and south of the Jinsha River on Sichuan-Tibet National Highway 318 was torn away. The bridge engineering branch made arrangement in the first time to participate in the rescue and restoration of the damaged traffic line, and completed the testing and design of the Jinshajiang Bridge.
Upon receiving the instructions of Sichuan Road & Bridge Group for disaster relief on November 15, the bridge branch’s Deputy General Manager Li Yuyou and the Chief Engineer Pei Binjia rushed to the Batang rescue and disaster relief headquarters, and converged with the rescue headquarters formed by the Ministry of Transport, the Provincial Department of Transportation, and the prefecture and county governments to carry out the disaster survey.
At 8:00 on the 16th day, under the leadership of Wang Songbo, Director of the Engineering Management Department of the Ministry of Transport, members of Sichuan Road & Bridge rescue headquarters rushed to the Jinshajiang Bridge to investigate the disaster. The roads along the Jinsha River were damaged to varying degrees, and in some sections were completely torn away. The high mountain and torrential water made it difficult to walk. The main girder of the Jinshajiang Bridge, the “key passage” for crossing the river, sustained severe damage, and T girder with 7 spans was damaged. The Bridge Engineering Branch harnesses its professional competence to take the lead in the testing and design of Jinshajiang Bridge damaged in flood discharge. On the same day, the surveying work was completed, and the data was submitted to the headquarters, which provided precise data for the rescue and restoration of Jinshajiang Bridge.
In the afternoon, Wang Songbo presided over an emergency rescue meeting. At the meeting, the rescue and restoration plans were made for the national highway 318 and the provincial highway 215 along the Jinsha River, and Sichuan Road & Bridge Group was requested to implement the specific rescue and restoration work after the relevant design documents were submitted for approval.
Up to now, Sichuan Road & Bridge Group’s Bridge Engineering Branch has dispatched technicians and equipment from construction projects nearby for the rescue and restoration work.
